Spring 2021 - Supplemental
We are currently experiencing difficulties with our transition from Blackboard to Canvas - the following material will help you prepare for our first class meeting. (You will see similar info when the Canvas system is up and running.) Look forward to seeing you in class Tuesday morning!
Welcome to Advanced Public Speaking! In our increasingly digital world, some may think the importance of public speaking is diminishing. However, the law of supply & demand tells us that, if quality public speaking is in short supply, its value will increase. (And of course, even in a digital world, skills like job interviews, conducting meetings, etc. will remain necessary and important skills.)
Together, we will explore some theory, experiment with various speech genres, and develop and present some speeches. (This is what Aristotle refers to as "knowing, doing, and making.") Below you will find links for the materials we will use in class. The Lion's share of our attention will fall on the materials in the "modules," but you should begin with the "syllabus" and "canvas support."
Looking forward to a great 2021 Spring Term!
